EOS warns of fake debt collection emails

  • Currently, fraudulent emails are circulating in which alleged Amazon claims are made in the name of EOS Deutscher Inkasso-Dienst – affected individuals should not pay under any circumstances.
  • The authenticity of EOS letters can be easily verified online using the 11-digit claim number.
  • Consumers can find helpful tips on how to protect themselves from fraud attempts at https://de.eos-solutions.com/customers/phishing.
EOS Deutscher Inkasso-Dienst urgently warns of fraudulent payment requests that have allegedly been sent in the name of the company for about a week. The emails claim to represent a supposed debt from Amazon. They usually contain the real address of the affected individuals and demand payment to an Italian account.

"We unfortunately find that the fake letters are professionally crafted and resemble our genuine letters," explains Michaela Homann, Director of Customer Communications at EOS Deutscher Inkasso-Dienst. "However, affected individuals can easily recognize the fraud. Genuine letters from EOS always contain an 11-digit claim number in the top right corner, which can be verified at www.eos-serviceportal.de. If an error message appears there or if the letter does not contain a claim number at all, it is a forgery. In this case, no payment should be made, and the email should be deleted."

EOS website provides tips on how to protect against fraud attempts

To warn about these fraud attempts, EOS promptly published information on its service channels after the first cases became known. Additionally, a dedicated website provides detailed information on how consumers can protect themselves: https://de.eos-solutions.com/customers/phishing.

Furthermore, a report has been filed against unknown perpetrators. "Unfortunately, there are many indications that the perpetrators in this case have acted very systematically," explains Dirk Lohmann, Director of the Legal Department at EOS in Germany. "We are now aware of several domains through which the emails are being sent. We have requested blocks from the providers, but it remains a cat-and-mouse game as new domains are constantly being registered." The domains set up by the fraudsters for email dispatch have names like eos-kontaktstelle.de or eos-akteninfo.de and have nothing to do with the official EOS websites. EOS Deutscher Inkasso-Dienst sends its emails exclusively from [email protected].

"We must assume that such fraud attempts will increase in the future," says Lohmann. "With the use of artificial intelligence, forgeries are unfortunately becoming more sophisticated. Recipients of collection letters should therefore carefully check whether it is a genuine claim and, in case of doubt, inquire through the company's official contact channels."
